What is the baptism of the Holy Spirit?

The baptism of the Holy Spirit is the baptism into Christ: This is the born again experience.

1Co 12:13-14 KJV  For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.  (14)  For the body is not one member, but many.

This one body is the body of Christ. The baptism of the Holy Spirit is the believing sinner being taken out of sin and being placed/immersed into Christ. Christ is joined to the believer. This is how we can say that we are “in Christ” because of this fact. This is the work of the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit immerses/baptizes the believing sinner into Christ through this baptism – the baptism OF the Holy Spirit. To be baptized into Christ is to receive everything that Christ is immediately. Father God places His Seed who is Christ into the believing sinner and the two become one just as in the marriage illustration that Paul gives here in Ephesians:

Eph 5:30-32 KJV  For we are members of his body, of his flesh,
and of his bones.  (31)  For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.  (32)  This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.

1Co 6:17 KJV  But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.

This is the moment of regeneration and we become new creations. We are now sons of God. God has become our Father by virtue of His Seed that He places into us. The Adamic nature is replaced with His nature. The old man is put off and the new man put on – Gal 3:27.
