The Cross

The message of the cross

Many believers think that the cross is ONLY the place where our sin was forgiven. Salvation through the cross is not God fixing or improving our old life. It is not a life made better or just forgiven. A believer is not saved just by being forgiven of sins or the old life. A believer is saved by the life of another.
The old life, “the forgiven life”, dies at the cross….

Romans 6:6-12 KJV Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. (7) For he that is dead is freed from sin. (8) Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him: (9) Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him. (10) For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God. (11) Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. (12) Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.

Galatians 2:20 KJV I am crucified with Christ: …….

When Christ was crucified, we were as well in the flesh. When Christ died, we died. We are like chickens with our heads cut off, we have been dealt a death blow, but keep on flopping around on the earth until the last nerve is stilled. The flesh has been defeated forever.  At that moment of salvation, the sinner dies, and a new creature is formed.

2 Corinthians 5:17 KJV Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Our old life is not saved. It is dead. We are saved through receiving another’s life, the life of Christ.  Romans 5:10 KJV For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.  It is like having a heart transplant. God puts a completely new life in us, the life of Christ. This is accomplished at the cross. This is why Jesus said, “it is finished”. Everything is done by God. Man has nothing to do except believe it true.

Ezekiel 36:26-27 KJV A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. (27) And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.

In the cross Jesus took care of sin and He took care of the law. Why? Because no one could keep the law.

Colossians 2:14 KJV Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;

Ephesians 2:15 KJV Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;

Why do so many Christians try and make you follow the law again?

Galatians 3:10-13 KJV For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them. (11) But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith. (12) And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them. (13) Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:

So you may ask what was the purpose of the law?
Galatians 3:24 KJV Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
