Law and grace

If we rightly divide the word of God as we are told to in 2 Tim 2:15 we will understand what scriptures are written to us as new creation people. We are not Jews and never will be. We are a completely new breed of people with God as our Father. He has birthed us by placing the incorruptible Seed, Christ, in us. We have been crucified with Christ and the life we now live is Christ!

As Gentile believers we need to grasp that we are not under the Law.

Rom 9:4 KJV  Who are Israelites; to whom pertaineth the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises;

Joh 18:31 KJV  Then said Pilate unto them, Take ye him, and judge him according to your law. ….

We have been given a new gospel to live by, the doctrine of Christ. This doctrine was given to the Apostle Paul. He was given it from Christ Himself and no man taught it to him – Gal 1. God revealed Christ His Son in Paul and Paul was sent to the gentiles with this message – Christ in us the hope of Glory.

Gal 1:6-12 KJV  (6)  I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:  (7)  Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.  (8)  But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.  (9)  As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.  (10)  For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.  (11)  But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man. (12) For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.

I am extremely saddened to see how many pulpits ignorantly preach the Law of Moses mixed with grace – which Paul calls “no gospel at all”. This corrupted gospel of Law and grace causes great confusion, and causes innocent believers to believe that they have to do something to be accepted by God. They believe that they need to be busy impressing God by works. This corrupt gospel brings condemnation on them and eventually they become dissulusioned because they cannot measure up to what this “heavy yoke” placed around their necks is demanding from them.

Paul asked why were the believers returning back to the weak and beggarly elements of the Law again? I think that believers today need to be asked the same question. Why are we returning to the Law when we have been set free from the law? The Law dealt with the outer fleshly man. It had to be kept by man and over a period of about 4000 years of Law, man proved over and over again that he could not keep the Law sucessfully. In fact man failed dismally. God knew that man would fail and so He sent Jesus Christ to fulfil the Law.

Please read the following scriptures which testify that we are COMPLETELY FREE from the Law.

Rom 6:14 KJV  For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

Rom 10:4 KJV  For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.

Christ is the end of the Law. Christ’s death on the cross ended the Law. Christ died for our sin and the Law was upon Him as well as our sin:

Rom 7:4-6  (6) Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.  (5)  For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death.  (6)  But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.

Our freedom from the Law is as complete as our freedom from sin.

Gal 2:16-21 KJV  Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.  (17)  But if, while we seek to be justified by Christ, we ourselves also are found sinners, is therefore Christ the minister of sin? God forbid.  (18)  For if I build again the things which I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor. (19) For I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God.  (20)  I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.  (21)  I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.

Gal 3:10-13 KJV  For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.  (11)  But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith.  (12)  And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them.  (13)  Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:

Gal 3:24-25 KJV  Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.  (25)  But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.

Gal 4:4-9 KJV  But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,  (5)  To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. (6) And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.  (7)  Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.  (8)  Howbeit then, when ye knew not God, ye did service unto them which by nature are no gods. (9) But now, after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage?

Law preaching brings people into bondage and captivity. Many Christians worldwide are unknowingly in bondage because they are trying to keep the Law albeit under the guise of the New Testament! What do I mean? Let me explain: If a pulpit preaches that we have to love one another as Jesus Himself stated, and it does not draw the hearers to the Person and Source of Love – Who is Christ in us, then they bringing condemnation onto their hearers. The truth is that Humans cannot love in their own strength and ability. Christ is Love and we cannot love apart from Him in us – for Jesus Christ IS THE WAY!!!!!!! The way to love our brothers is not by making a decision, it is by Jesus Christ! This is grace in action. I hope I was clear on this point?

The Law when kept sucessfully by man, causes self righteousness and a sense of vanity and supremacy. This breeds a performance based mentality, and is directly responsible for pride caused by “voluntary humility and abasement of the flesh”. This is because of the fact that flesh enjoys achievement and success in its own strength. Brothers exalt themselves against brothers and elevate themselves over one another. This brings people into captivity and God says that our own righteousness is as filthy rags Is 64:6.

Gal 4:21-31 KJV  Tell me, ye that desire to be under the law, o ye not hear the law?  (22)  For it is witten, that Abraham had two sons, the one by a bondmaid, the other by a freewoman.  (23)  But he who was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh; but he of the freewoman was by promise. (24) Which things are an allegory: for these are the two covenants; the one from the mount Sinai, which gendereth to bondage, which is Agar.  (25)  For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and answereth to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children.  (26)  But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all.  (27)  For it is written, Rejoice, thou barren that bearest not; break forth and cry, thou that travailest not: for the desolate hath many more children than she which hath an husband.  (28)  Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise.  (29)  But as then he that was born after the flesh  persecuted him that was born after the Spirit, even so it is now. (30) Nevertheless what saith the scripture? Cast out the bondwoman and her son: for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman.  (31)  So then, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman, but of the free.

The shocking thing is that this is what Paul says falling from grace is:

Gal 5:4 KJV  Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.

Gal 6:13 KJV  For neither they themselves who are circumcised keep the law; but desire to have you circumcised, that they may glory in your flesh.

Look at this awesome verse:

Eph 2:15-16 KJV  Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;  (16)  And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:

Php 3:9 KJV  And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:

The Law is impossible to keep because of human corruptness. Why would anyone want to free willingly be under such a hard taskmaster?

Jas 2:10 KJV  For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

Col 2:11-17 KJV  In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:  (12)  Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.  (13)  And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; (14)  Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against  us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; (15)  And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.  (16)  Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:  (17)  Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.

Free at last!!!! Or not?
