Doctrine of Christ

Why is the doctrine of Christ important to us?

We are living in a world where we can hear just about anything on almost any subject when we listen to preachers. For example: at 7pm you can listen to Pastor Appleby-and-orange tells us how to live a fuller life. At 19h30 we can hear Pastor Lemon-and-pawpaw explaining how to have a happier marriage. At 20h00 we can hear Pastor Pineapple preach a fiery message on how to stop sinning. The “sermon menu” we have available to us as christians is amazing. Does God agree with the vast choice that is offered to us? Is everything preached based on the Word of God? Notice my choice of words here. I said “Word of God” and not scripture. Why am i saying this? Because we can put together a collection of scriptures to prove almost anything we want to prove from the Bible. For example we read that if someone curses God, they must be put to death.

Leviticus 24:16-17 GW But those who curse the LORD’S name must be put to death. The whole congregation must stone them to death. It makes no difference whether they are Israelites or foreigners. Whoever curses the LORD’S name must die.

Is this scriptural? It is isn’t it? It is scriptural but it is not written to us. It is written to Israel thousands of years ago. They were a nation under the Law and not under grace. I hope you understand.

Lets move on.

Many Christians all over the world are frustrated and are finding themselves in a place where they are either losing faith in the “church”, or they have lost faith in the “church” completely. This is happening in my opinion due to the fact that A CORRUPT GOSPEL is being preached from many pulpits. It is time that Christians – take responsibility for what they are hearing, and to stop “lapping up” regurgitated “scriptural information” that has no Christ value whatsoever. By Christ value I mean if pulpits use scripture, these scriptures must be drawn through to the person of Christ in them. Failure to do this results in letter being preached devoid of Life Himself, for Life is found only in the Son.

“Traditions and philisophical fables”, when preached under the banner of the gospel, will keep its hearers in bondage. Bondage that keeps them enslaved to a system, bondage that is masked with scripture, but lacking the true Power of God. We need to return to what God intended us to know – the doctrine of Christ – the Person of  Christ in us!!!

It is key to understand what the doctrine of Christ is, because of this very serious scripture…..

2 John 1:9-11 KJV Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. (10) If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: (11) For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.

Preaching the doctrine or message of Christ, is not optional. It is very very clearly stated how important it is that we do… and that we must be careful not to preach another gospel. So what is the doctrine of Christ? Is it the historical books of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John and the book of Acts? Is it found in the Old Testament? Where do we find it?

If you think that the doctrine of Christ is found in the 4 gospels, read on carefully!!!!

Matthew 10:5-6 GW Jesus sent these twelve out with the following instructions: “Don’t go among people who are not Jewish or into any Samaritan city. (6) Instead, go to the lost sheep of the nation of Israel.

Only in Matthew 28 did Jesus command His disciples to go to the gentiles.

Matthew 15:21-28 GW Jesus left that place and went to the region of Tyre and Sidon. (22) A Canaanite (Gentile person – not Jewish) woman from that territory came to him and began to shout, “Have mercy on me, Lord, Son of David! My daughter is tormented by a demon.” (23) But he did not answer her at all. Then his disciples came to him and urged him, “Send her away. She keeps shouting behind us.” (24) Jesus responded, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of the nation of Israel.” (25) She came to him, bowed down, and said, “Lord, help me!” (26) Jesus replied, “It’s not right to take the children’s food and throw it to the dogs.” (27) She said, “You’re right, Lord. But even the dogs eat scraps that fall from their masters’ tables.” (28) Then Jesus answered her, “Woman, you have strong faith! What you wanted will be done for you.” At that moment her daughter was cured.

Jesus clearly tells us that He was sent to the Jews.

Why have we been taught that these 4 gospels is the doctrine of Christ? We have been taught that the doctrine of Christ is what Jesus says in the 4 gospels. But Jesus tells us a completely different story. The truth is that these 4 books are the historical account of Jesus life on the earth and the message He preached to JEWS!!!!! Jesus preached the kingdom message to His people, the Jews.

John 1:11 MKJV He came to His own, and His own received Him not.

So where is the doctrine of Christ to be found?????

We have seen that Jesus Himself told us that He was sent to His own – the Jewish people. The gentiles were not part of His focus when He was Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus was a Jew and He kept the Law perfectly. He did not break the Law in any way. Jesus preached to the Jews!

The gentiles were at this stage put to one side until Jesus had finished His work here on earth.

So the question arises: ” Where do we find the gospel to the gentile people? Where do we find the gospel to us?

To find part of the answer we need to start by looking at the Book of Acts. In it we find mentioned some verses that are generally overlooked.

Acts 26:13-18 KJV At midday, O king, I saw in the way a light from heaven, above the brightness of the sun, shining round about me and them which journeyed with me. (14) And when we were all fallen to the earth, I heard a voice speaking unto me, and saying in the Hebrew tongue, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks. (15) And I said, Who art thou, Lord? And he said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest. (16) But rise, and stand upon thy feet: for I have appeared unto thee for this purpose, to make thee a minister and a witness both of these things which thou hast seen, and of those things in the which I will appear unto thee; (17) Delivering thee from the people, and from the Gentiles, unto whom now I send thee, (18) To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.

Acts 28:23-28 KJV  And when they had appointed him (Paul) a day, there came many (Jews) to him into his lodging; to whom he expounded and testified the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus, both out of the law of Moses, and out of the prophets, from morning till evening. (24) And some believed the things which were spoken, and some believed not. (25) And when they agreed not among themselves, they departed, after that Paul had spoken one word, Well spake the Holy Ghost by Esaias the prophet unto our fathers, (26) Saying, Go unto this people, and say, Hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and not perceive: (27) For the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them. (28) Be it known therefore unto you, that the salvation of God is sent unto the Gentiles, and that they will hear it.

Jesus Christ personally chose Paul to be His chosen messenger to the “gentiles”.

Look at this wonderful scripture to prove this point:

Ephesians 3:1-2 KJV For this cause I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles, (2) If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward:

Paul himself refers more than 3 different times to the gospel of Jesus as his gospel:

Romans 2:16 MKJV in a day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.

Romans 16:25 MKJV Now to Him who is able to establish you according to my gospel, …..

2 Timothy 2:8 MKJV Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel,

No other writer in the new testament including Matthew, Mark, Luke or John, made this claim besides him. Paul never says that he preached himself or that he preached the historical account of Jesus.

Lets see what Paul preached to the gentiles:

Rom 16:25-26 KJV  Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began,  (26)  But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith:

He preached Jesus Christ! He did not preach what Jesus could do – he did not preach how to get righteousness, he preached the Person of Christ ACCORDING TO THE MYSTERY!

Eph 3:8-9 KJV  Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ;  (9)  And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:

What exactly is this mystery that Paul preached?

Col 1:25-28 KJV  Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God;  (26)  Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:  (27)  To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:  (28)  Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus:

Paul preached Christ in him!

He did not preach ABOUT Christ – he preached Christ in him.

Paul did not tolerate people preaching any other gospels no matter what!

Galatians 1:9-12 KJV As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed. (10) For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ. (11) But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man. (12) For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.

This gospel Paul was not taught to him by another human being. It was not founded or based on his Jewish past. It was a revelation of Jesus Christ Himself. There is no other gospel for us “gentiles’ – the gospel of Christ.
