Angel worship

14 04 2012

I see a very real danger in certain Christian circles today that if not checked, will bring many into bondage. There is a trend towards “angel worship” camouflaged under the banner of “the prophetic movement”. If this trend is not addressed, many innocent people will fall into “angel worship”.

There are teachings going around that there are “portals” and “gateways” that angels enter and exit through into and from the spirit realm. It was explained to me by a ‘believer” that the evidence of these portals is sometimes captured on camera and appear as “orbs” or bright spots on the picture. They went on to explain that these ‘orbs” as they call them, are “evidence of angelic beings being present”, or “a sign that God is pleased”. “It is a sign of God’s approval!”

Paul explicitly warned the Colossian Church of this error:

Colossians 2:18-19 Amplified Bible (AMP) 18Let no one defraud you by acting as an umpire and declaring you unworthy and disqualifying you for the prize, insisting on self-abasement and worship of angels, taking his stand on visions [he claims] he has seen, vainly puffed up by his sensuous notions and inflated by his unspiritual thoughts and fleshly conceit, 19And not holding fast to the Head, from Whom the entire body, supplied and knit together by means of its joints and ligaments, grows with a growth that is from God.

Paul was correcting the Gnostic doctrine that preached the worshipping of created beings like angels. The church in Colosse was guilty of this and Paul wanted them to understand the seriousness of their error. Paul preached Christ ALONE. He did not preach about angels or portals or “orbs”!  He preached Christ the Head of the Church, and that we must ONLY look to Him the Author and Finisher of our faith.

Paul warns the Roman Church of this error as well:

Rom 1:24-25 KJV Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: (25) Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

Looking for “orbs” in photographs does not exalt Christ – it exalts the creature. An “orb” near someone in the photo does not exalt Christ – in fact it exalts the person in the photograph because it is said that it is “a sign of an angelic precence”! What it actually does is take that honour which is due to Christ only and give it to the created creature.

We need to get a revelation of Christ in us. He is our hope of Glory. God’s presence is in us and not outside of us. There is no camera that can take that AWESOME photograph! We need to see that Christ’s body does not need anything besides or apart from Him, for He is our life. We are complete in Him and have already received the fullness of the Godhead in Him.

In closing: We must avoid anything and anyone that takes our eyes off Christ. This is why the angel that was speaking to John in Revelation, rebuked John for worshipping him – Rev 19:10 & Rev 22:8-9, and at the end of his sentence said, “WORSHIP GOD!”

To each one of us Jesus warns us: “Be careful what you hear…” Mark 4:24

Note: I do not deny the fact that portals and the such may exist, I am however opposed to anything that exalts itself above the knowledge of Christ.
