two natures: Sinful or Divine?

28 03 2012

The religious mind believes that we must do good in order to “go to heaven” or “to receive eternal life”. It believes that there is an imaginary line: on the far left hand side of the red line we have Evil and the devil and on the far right of the red line we have good and God. Most people see themselves in about the middle of the line wavering between good and evil, and God and Satan. They believe that they need to stay on the right hand side of the red line in order to please God. Most people believe that as long as they do more good than evil, they are safe and that this will gain them entrance into Heaven when they die. On the contrary, they believe that if they do evil and sin a lot, let’s say for argument sake they sin 80% of the time, then when they die they will go to hell. This imaginary red line keeps people on their toes so to speak because no one wants to go to hell, so most people try and do good to keep them on the right hand side of the imaginary line.

The problem with this belief system is that people trust and rely on themselves not to do evil and to do good. For Example: If someone has a bad day, they may be in a bad mood and because of their state of being that specific day, they will shout at their spouse, or get angry at their children, or be rude to a cashier in the bank etc etc. If they use the above belief system, they will be on the wrong side of the red line so to speak. And if they happen to die on that day, according to their belief system they will go to hell. So we can see the floors in this system and we need to understand the truth concerning this very important matter, both to ourselves, and to God.

This false belief system is based on a humanistic phrase: “It is human nature”. Many many people and even Christians believe that humans have their own nature. The dictionary describes “human nature” as: The general psychological characteristics, feelings, and behavioural traits of humankind, regarded as shared by all humans. This description sounds right because as we can all agree, humans have a very specific way about them and they act and react in certain ways that is found only in humans.

I personally am of the conviction that we have been deceived into thinking that we have our own nature. I will explain why I believe this in the next few paragraphs? We need to understand that Satan is very crafty and subtle – Gen 3:1. Satan has always operated with subtlety and right up to today, it is his “motif operandi”. Just think about it for a while: Satan used scripture while trying to tempt Jesus but with subtle “modifications” that suited his own perverted agendas. Jesus saw right through his plans and thwarted him with the correct scriptures in their correct context – Mat 4:3-10.  Satan does not manifest himself as an ugly monster but as an angel of light- 2 Cor 11:14.

The danger of believing in a human nature is that it becomes a cocoon in which non- believers and Christians hide away from reality in because of lack of understanding. On the one hand, non-believers do not believe or do not want to believe that they have a sinful nature and so they try to do good in order to “earn” salvation. On the other hand believers  do not understand the new birth and what really happens when they are born again, and they struggle to grasp the awesome truth that they have received God’s nature and that they stand before Him perfect in Spirit. This is why both groups of people believe in the human nature theory!!! It has become a safe place for them even though it is deception! It sounds harmless to believe that we have a human nature, until we look at the spiritual damage that this belief causes.

When a Christian believes that they have a human nature, they are forever in a state of striving. What do I mean by this? When they believe that they have a human nature, they are always stuck between doing good and overcoming sin. If you look at the diagram above you will see the Kingdom of darkness on the left hand side of the red line and God’s Kingdom on the right hand side of the red line.

Believers and unbelievers who do not know the truth about the two natures, are always  trying to do “good” things in order to earn salvation or blessings from God or from their “higher power”. They are forever striving to “elevate” their behaviour from a “human level” to a Godly, or higher level. Believers with this mind-set are always trying to get closer to God somehow. They believe that if they can change themselves into a better and holier person, then they will get closer to God. This incorrect belief that they have a human nature causes a fear of condemnation and rejection and they are constantly fearing God’s judgment upon them and their actions.

As believers, not knowing that we have received God’s divine nature and believing that we have a human nature is a major contributing factor to most of our problems and is a major contributor to sin!!!! A believer who believes that they have a human nature will continue to fall into sin and other damaging habits, because of their “human natures” experiential continual failure and inability to change – Rom 7:18-24. Because of this they have a sinner mind-set and see God as a Judge and not as a Father. They have a “spiritual beggar” mentality and have no confidence in approaching God. I have named but a few things in this regard.

So what nature do we have? Every person on the planet is born with a sinful nature that is inherited from Adam. Please follow this link for more on the sinful nature:

The fact is we are either Satan’s children – children of disobedience, wrath and darkness, or we are God’s children of light – John 8:34-59 KJV.

Jesus is clear that we are either God’s children or Satan’s children. There are no other options.

Ephesians 5:6-8 KJV  Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.  (7)  Be not ye therefore partakers with them.  (8)  For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:

Colossians 3:6 KJV  For which things’ sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:

This is why Paul says this:

Rom 7:17 MKJV  But now it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwells in me.

Paul clearly states that the sin in him committed the acts of dissobedience – the sinful nature prior to salvation.

So how do we get rid of this sinful nature inherited from Satan? The answer lies in being born again. Jesus says to Nicodemus that we must be born again. Why does He say that? Because being born again is an exchange of natures: The sinful nature is crucified in Christ and we are birthed by God. God exchanges our sinful nature with His divine nature and places Christ into us. For more on being born again please follow this link:

2 Peter 1:4 KJV  Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

So with this understanding, we cannot as Christians continue to stick our heads in the proverbial sand and continue to believe and preach that we have a human nature because this belief will cause us and our hearers to try and earn our own salvation and we will try and earn God’s approval through our own works and striving. There is no imaginary middle line called “human nature” that we need to hide away in and believe in. We have either God’s or Satan’s nature, there isn’t another nature. We are not just humans beings as we so often state, we are vessels that were created to contain the life of another: We either contain the life of God – Jesus Christ in us or we contain Satan’s “life”. That is why God breathed His life into Adam because Adam was made as a vessel to contain another life!!!

One day when we die God will not as so many affirm, tally up our good deeds and sinful bad deeds and see if we did more good than bad in order to gain entrance into Heaven. In reality our admission into God’s house in heaven is dependent on one fact only: Do we have His nature or not? If His Seed is in us, then we are His children and we have already been accepted by Him. If His Seed is not in us, then we belong to another and are destined for damnation.

In closing, as God’s children we are already accepted, and chosen, and perfect because of His Seed – His nature – Christ in us. Because we have His nature – we stand before God perfect, holy, righteous, accepted, beloved, sanctified and cared for. We have already received every spiritual blessing in Christ Jesus. We have already received everything that God could possibly give us in Christ. We are not sinners any longer because God’s Seed cannot sin, and we do not live anymore but Christ lives in us through us. We are not spiritual beggars always worrying about our right standing with God, for we are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. We are the King’s kids and we have received His nature – His Seed, Christ in us, the hope of glory!!!!
