Sustained by beholding His beauty

Definition of Sustain: to sustain, maintain, contain, support, nourish, to support, endure, to be supplied, hold, endure

When I was walking my way, a worldly way, an independent and self-indulgent way, I came to a point where I hit rock bottom spiritually and emotionally. I experienced this enormous sense of giving up and I remember crying out to God for deliverance from this horrible arid place. In hind sight it was the best place to be in because it was in this place when I gave up control of my ‘’life’’. It was at this place of surrender where God gently took control of my life’s reins and made the necessary changes. I confessed my weaknesses and how much I needed Him, and almost immediately experienced a lightness in my heart. He took all my burdens, all my hurt, my guilt and in an incredible priceless moment I touched Him and tears streamed down my face. I realized that I was beholding His beauty. I was totally infatuated and want to spend all my time with Him. Everything started to fade into the background and it was just Him and me!

For some of you this may sound very familiar and for others some have not experienced Jesus at all and are searching for the truth. Jesus wants to remind you today that He is pursuing you and He is asking of you to give Him the reins. It really doesn’t matter where you are in your walk with God, you will always be facing the very difficult question, “Do I entrust everything into the hands of the one I love?”

Matthew 16:24 …Jesus says to disciples… “Anyone who intends to come with me has to let me lead (deny self, has to give up all). You’re not in the driver’s seat; I am. Don’t run from suffering; embrace it. Follow me and I’ll show you how.”

You cannot divide your life up into sections like so many of us are in the habit of doing, giving only certain sections to God and holding back some of the sections that you are managing so well for yourself. It’s all or nothing in God’s Kingdom! Throw yourself into Him completely and hand over all sections into His very capable hands.

Ask yourself these questions, “Are you a yielded lover or has your affection strayed to others? Are you an infatuated bride  or are you a nagging wife?”

Most of us married women know what it means is to be a wife but few of us remember truly what it means to be as bride!!! This is because we were brides for such a short time we have forgotten what it was like. When my husband and I fell in love, we were consumed with each other. I didn’t marry him because He was a good cook or because he was going to be a great Father, or even because he was financially responsible. In fact he didn’t have to prove his aptitude in any area to me because I was totally in love with who he was and not because of what he could do.

If I look at my relationship with my husband today, I never married him with the condition that we never go through any hardships. I married Him because I couldn’t live without him. God is the same and wants a bride who loves Him because she cannot live without Him. He does not want someone who wants to leave Him when times get tough, or when she doesn’t get want she wants and has lack in some physical part of her life.

The Lord shared a vision with me about 3 years ago:

I was in a gondoler with Jesus. He was the gondolier standing in the helm steering the gondoler. I was sitting in the front of the gondoler  facing Him with my back facing the direction that He was steering us in. What caught my attention was the fact that I was not even looking in the direction that He was taking me. I was so completely ‘’glued’’ to His eyes and felt tremendous peace. Then the Lord said to me that I must let Him lead and all that was needed from me was to  just behold Him and that I would not have to worry about anything.

That moment I felt like time stood still, and I wished that I could stay in that place forever.

This vision reminded me of an old gospel song often sung by my parents when I was at home as a child: Turn your eyes apon Jesus, look full in His wonderful face, and the things of the earth will grow strangely dim, in the light of His glory and grace.”

What I didn’t know at the time of this vision was that the Lord was telling me that I was going to go through a very long and hard and tough experience, and that I must not allow my attention to be swayed from Him. The following 3 years my family went through great trials and tribulations, just as Paul said we would.

He has shown me that the reason we want to stay in control of our own little boat is because of fear. It is because we are afraid, we fear death, we fear being alone, we fear failure etc etc.

2 Timothy 1:7 (ISV) “For God did not give us a spirit of timidity but one of power, love, and of a sound mind.”

There is no fear in love, in fact love casts out fear. We need to know the One who is Love and fear will have to flee.

Psalm 55:22 “Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.”

Often our first reaction when we are in turbulent difficult situations is to run and to allow our situation to overwhelm us. We then become anxious and even become bitter. What we need to do is turn inwards to the Lord, and allow ourselves to be so immersed in His presence and allow His glory to enfold us in such a way that we start thinking His thoughts. He sustains us as we behold Him.

In Ezekiel 47, Ezekiel is given a prophetic vision by God. The angel of the Lord leads him deeper and deeper into the river until he is fully immersed under the water.

God wants us to lose ourselves in Him, to be out of our depth in His presence, carried away by irresistible currents of His love.

Ezekiel 47:5 (GNB) “… stream was so deep I could not wade through it. It was too deep to cross except by swimming.”

This is where the water was over Ezekiel’s head, He could not see the bottom neither feel it. He was now being held up by the river. He was under its control.

You will never fulfill God’s purposes through you until you are fully surrendered to Him. He must become our Everything. Unfortunately we do not know how to surrender ourselves so God allows very difficult and trying times to come into our lives. It is only through these trials and tribulations and tests, that Christ can bring us to this place of complete surrender.

Surrender is not a decision we make, but a place that God brings us into!!!! He sustains you, He fulfills you, He provides for you, He loves you, He gives you comfort and He is the only one that can fulfill you.

Let me ask you this prophetic question: “How deep will you go?’’ When challenges, hardships, and tragedies of life come – and they will come – where do we turn? Do we turn to our logic and wordly wisdom? Do we make decisions based on what is right according to the world?  Or will we turn to Him? It is only in the refuge of His presence can we find true Peace, Healing, and Strength for this life. All these things is the Person of Christ Jesus. He is Life. He is Strength. He is Wisdom. He in us is the hope of glory! He knows and cares completely for us. The question is, “Will we trust Him?”

Psalm 56:11  “In God I have put my trust; I will not be afraid of what man can do to me.”

Trusting Him, causes us to stop looking at ourselves or our situations. When we begin to dwell in the secret place of God and we become so overwhelmed with who God is, that is when we will stop worrying about ‘’me’’ altogether.

Psalm 73:16  “Still, when I tried to figure it out, all I got was a splitting headache …Until I entered the sanctuary of God. Then I saw the whole picture: “

When we behold Him, He not only sustains us, but we also are transformed more and more into His image.

2Corinthians 3:18 “But we all, beholding the glory of the Lord with open face, are transformed into the same image from glory to glory, as by the Spirit of the Lord.”

Our purpose must be, to keep our vision fixed on the beauty of Him, the glory of Him, the holiness of Him, the all-sufficiency of Him.

Psalm 112:7 “Unfazed by rumor and gossip, Heart ready, Trusting in GOD, (sustained) Spirit firm, unperturbed, Ever blessed, relaxed among enemies,”

In closing: Please read the following prophetic word which was given by Eileen Fisher on August 11, 2009 during her weekly Prophetic School of the Holy Spirit meeting in Colorado Springs, Colorado:

“You are to fix your eyes upon Me like; you are to lock hearts with Me so I can heal and protect your hearts, give Me your ears so I can put the piercing of My hands on them to where you can hear Me plain and clear. Give Me your feet, so I can press fresh oil on your feet, this will allow you to slip into the positions I have created for you.

Your heart has already made the choice to follow Me, your will has already been given to Me. But I say: Now My will shall be given unto you.

For I am looking for a Bride who is hungry and thirsty. who at all costs, will press in until she herself plants kisses of hope upon My cheek and feels the embrace of My arms around her.

For I am looking for a Bride who will not look for anyone else but her Beloved. She ignores all else around her. She has locked her eyes with My eyes.

Do not let your hearts be troubled; I am filling your heart, letting it be burnt by My fire for divine ownership. For I am branding your hearts. “You will not be given to another, for you have been called by My name. In My name you will live and move. Cry out, and I will show you great and mighty things, for I am not only your Beloved, but I am the Great I Am.”
