Running the race

24 02 2012

1Co  9:24  Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.

This verse at first glance sounds like it is saying that each one of us must run the ”religious race” that God has laid out for us, with the goal of winning the prize. I mean if there can only be one prize winner, then so many of us are going to be dissapointed at the end of the race. This understanding of this verse puts pressure on us to perform and to out run our fellow ”competitors”. Paul was not meaning this at all! He was revealing something much deeper here through the Holy Spirit. He is showing us that victory is the Lords. Jesus Christ is the Victor and He will and has won the prize. Our vistory lies being in Him. Christ in us is the way the truth and the life. He overcomes and conquers in us through us. Christ in us, the hope of glory……… Our self effort will not win us the prize no matter how well we run or how hard we try. Our flesh cannot gain us victory, for there can only be ONE prize Winner – Jesus Christ!!!!
