Are u dead to sin?

20 12 2011

Many Christians see themselves partially dead and partially alive and because of this they struggle to live the victorious life that Christ has given us. We readilly believe that Chist died, but we struggle to grasp that we died too!

Rom 6:10 KJV  For in that he died, he died unto sin once: …….

Do you notice that this verse says that Jesus died ‘’UNTO sin’’, it does not say “for sin”? In other words sin had no hold or claim over Him after His crucifixion. Jesus died unto sin on the cross and He rose again to a new life.

Rom 6:6 KJV  Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, …….

Gal 2:20 KJV  I am crucified with Christ: ……

These verses clearly state that we are crucified WITH Christ. When Christ was crucified, so were we. In God’s sight, God sees me, as a believer, as one who has died there in Christ. We died unto sin.

Rom_6:11 KJV  Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

It says that we are to reckon ourselves dead! This is an area where we as Christians really struggle with. We somehow believe that we are only a little bit dead!!! We somehow believe that we can be both dead and alive at the same time! The truth of us being dead with Christ is that we are cut off from sin, the world, and the flesh.

Gal_5:24  And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.

We are crucified to the world and are crucified and dead unto sin! We are completely cut off in Christ’s death and burial. That’s a very strong statement but that’s what God’s Word says, and a very great number of Christians never believe it. They say that they are dead to sin but they struggle with sin?!?! How can we say that we are dead to sin and still sin? We can say it over and over again but it really doesn’t work.

Please take special note of the following: The degree of our understanding of our death with Christ on the cross = the degree of victory over sin we will experience here on earth.

We readily believe that Jesus’ death and resurrection are so complete, physically and spiritually, that He is utterly out of the realm of the world, the flesh, and the devil, that they can’t touch Him. In contrast, we struggle to believe that our death is as real as His is. A far reaching lie that we have been led to believe is that Christ’s death is more real than ours.

We are to reckon ourselves dead – Rom_6:11  Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Paul says in this scripture that we are to reckon ourselves dead, but not just dead, but “dead INDEED”.

In closing, I pose this question: How dead do you see yourself?
