A new thing

10 12 2011

The Lord gave me a very clear word in 2007 while I was pregnant with Hannah our youngest daughter. I was very excited in my spirit and I knew that I didn’t understand the message in it’s fullness. It is only now that the Lord has revealed to me a better understanding of this message.

Not only is this word for the individual but I believe it is a Prophetic message of what God is busy doing in the body of Christ. He is doing “A NEW THING!”

The way the word came to me was in a vision. God often speaks to me in this way. I want to share the parts of the vision that I know pertain to the believer and the church:

I saw Jesus hand me a flaming sword, He dropped it into my hands and He said to me, “I have given you the sword of the spirit (revelatory word), the truth, with it you will wage battles!” Then He gave me a blossom, a purple blossom and He said, “I will refresh you and do NEW things!” I found myself then sitting on a bench with Him in green pastures looking at the most beautiful sunset. There were beautiful purple butterflies with gold markings on them flying all around us.

As I meditated on this vision, what stood out to me the most was the words “A New Thing”. If one looks at the butterfly and the blossom it all symbolizes newness, spring, bursting forth etc. The Lord then led me to this scripture which really sums up the message God was giving me.

Isaiah 43:18-21 “ Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert. The beast of the field shall honour me, the dragons and the owls: because I give waters in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert, to give drink to my people, my chosen.  This people have I formed for myself; they shall shew forth my praise.”

Here we see God clearly saying He wants to move us from the former things into a new thing!! I knew immediately this vision was from God and the Lord woke me night after night and spoke to me about the butterfly and the blossom and this new thing. As a germinating herb has a beautiful image of the silent but certain gradual growth, so it is in the believer and of course the body of Christ. When you look at a seed it produces or springs forth life, first the stem then the leaf etc. The same with a butterfly there are stages.

Let us have a look at the stages of the butterfly and what I believe the Lord was trying to teach me:

1st Stage – Egg

Female butterflies lay eggs on leaves of a particular plant. What we must also note is that each seed has everything in it to produce the most beautiful outcome, the butterfly. If we look at the body of Christ, we went through this baby stage as a seed first planted by God in the womb of Mary, then this seed grew into Jesus to the Apostles, and then the seed was laid down by the Apostles. Those who believed the gospel preached, received the incorruptible seed of Christ into them.

As an individual believer we have received God’s Seed, Christ in us. Christ in us is the sword, He is the truth, with Whom we will wage battle. He is our victory! He is the answer to everything!! In Him we have all things that pertain to life and godliness.

Isaiah 41:17-19 “I will open a way (Christ the way, truth and the life), not merely in the Red Sea, but in the wilderness of the whole world (to the gentiles too); and not merely one river (influences of the Holy spirit John 7:37 – Streams will flow from within) shall gush out of the rock, but many, which shall refresh, not the bodies as formerly, but the souls of the thirsty, so that the prophecy shall be fulfilled: ‘With joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation'”

This was the new thing that God was talking about. He wanted to make a way in the wilderness (where the Gentiles lived), where it was dry. Not just to the Jews but to the Gentiles too. This rock that he is talking about is Jesus the rock of all ages.

This was very difficult for the Jews to accept as we see that many did not agree with Paul when he told them that God revealed to him the mystery of Christ in him and that we were no longer under the former Jewish laws but are now under grace. Paul was sent by Jesus personally after His ascension to preach this “new thing”, the gospel of Christ.

If we look at the Church and how it has developed over the years we can see different stages of growth and development. We have seen documentaries of the “born again movement” where people were finding out that they must be born again. Millions of people were giving their lives to Jesus. I remember as a little girl people making fun of our kind of church because of the “Holy Spirit movement”. People were being baptized in the Spirit and talking in tongues. They thought we were so weird.

Each “breaking or springing forth” stage in the church was painful and difficult, but it was so necessary to move on in the direction that the Lord was taking His bride.

If nothing ever changed, there’d be no butterflies”.  ~Author Unknown

2nd  Stage – Caterpillar

Caterpillars spend their whole life eating and growing. As the caterpillar grows it sheds its skins four or five times called instars. This is the ugly stage, there is nothing nice looking about a caterpillar. The pupa is formed in the body of the caterpillar. The caterpillar’s skin splits and exposes the pupa.

“There is nothing in a caterpillar that tells you it’s going to be a butterfly”.  ~Richard Fuller

This is clearly parallel to a Christians life, the next stage in most believer’s lives is to eat God’s Word, to allow their minds to be renewed, to be teachable and to shed the old ways. Just as the caterpillar splits open and dies so that the pupa is exposed so we need to see our death on the cross and lay down our lives. We need to come to the understanding that we no longer live but that Christ lives through us. This is a long and painful process which happens mainly in the soul (mind, will and emotion). It is often a ugly stage in a believer’s life. We have to come to a place where we identify with our death on the cross with the Lord Jesus.

What the caterpillar calls the end of the world, the master calls a butterfly. ~ Richard Bach

Romans 12:1-2 “So then, my friends, because of God’s great mercy to us I appeal to you: Offer yourselves as a living sacrifice to God, dedicated to his service and pleasing to him. This is the true worship that you should offer.  (2)  Do not conform yourselves to the standards of this world, but let God transform you inwardly by a complete change of your mind. Then you will be able to know the will of God—what is good and is pleasing to him and is perfect.”

Galatians 4:19 “My dear children! Once again, just like a mother in childbirth, I feel the same kind of pain for you until Christ’s nature is formed in you.”

The Church has been through this stage of eating the scriptures and attaining knowledge for a long time. During this stage, all it does is eat and eat and eat and eat!! Bible Schools sprang up everywhere. Churches held all sorts of seminars and conferences. We believe there is a generation that has come to a point of complete surrender, a generation that is laying down everything to expose the Living Christ to the world. A generation that will count everything as rubbish to know Christ (Phillipians 3:8).

3rd  Stage – Pupa

The pupa hardens and hangs without moving for a while. Inside the pupa a wonderful change is happening. This is called metamorphosis. Although the pupa looks lifeless, there is a lot going on on the inside, as the caterpillar is literally liquified and then reassembled as a butterfly. As humans we find it hard to understand this process but it is sufficent to say it is one of natures miracles at work.

As a Christian we go through this still, lifeless stage, which is extremely frustrating and painful. There is absolutely no movement, but inside of us, amazing deep things are happening. This is where what was eaten in the previous stage will be reassembled according to God’s pattern – Christ. It is God working in us to do His good and pleasing will.

Most believers fall into the trap of wanting to fix things or do things, as they panic and think they must do something to be a better Christian. People try and hype things up to seem like there is life, power and anointing. This is false and fleshly, because it is man made and it is moving back to the former things. We cannot go back to the old covenant of law and works. We are in the New and we have to know that it is by His Grace alone.

This is where we have to rely and totally surrender to the process. He is working in you to become not to do!!!  This is a time where you withdraw into yourself, a time where you look only to Him and embrace what is happening in you – This is A new Thing!

So with the body of Christ, it has gone through a still, almost lifeless stage. People have even said that the Church is dead! However, God is intricqately involved bringing forth His Son Christ. This stage is where everything of the past is liquified and reassembled to form a maturity which must burst forth.

Ephesians 4:13 “And so we shall all come together to that oneness in our faith and in our knowledge of the Son of God; we shall become mature people, reaching to the very height of Christ’s full stature.”

4th Stage – Butterfly

The first evidence that a butterfly is ready to emerge is a transparency of the pupa case revealing the colours of the wings beneath. After a while the pupa splits open, and a limp damp butterfly emerges. The wings are like soggy paper. It is a very vulnerable time because all the butterfly does is hangs from the pupa case for an hour or so, so that its wings can straighten and dry out. Once this process is completed and the butterfly is warmed by the sun, it is ready for it’s first flight. This journey is the beginning of an adventure to feed and eventually to mate, so continuing the on-going life-cycle.

This is the stage that we as Christians must be. This is where we manifest on the outside what has already happened on the inside. We are to reveal glorious and beautiful Christ to the world. We are to fly to new heights, reaching places never possible before.

It is a total metamorphosis, nothing of the old, just the new. Looking closer at the butterfly, you’ll notice markings and this is all that’s left of the caterpillar. What you’ve become over-powers and eclipses what you were before

And what’s a butterfly? At best, He’s but a caterpillar, at rest. ~John Grey

I believe this is where the church is standing today, on the brink of manifesting His power and glory on this earth. The Key to this is by becoming transparent and vulnerable. We need to allow God to reassemble us according to His pattern.

In the vision the Lord gave me a purple blossom, which we all know is the colour of royalty, kingship (This is the colour of His Chosen people).

Isaiah 35:1 (Message) “Wilderness and desert will sing joyously, the badlands will celebrate and flower– Like the crocus in spring, bursting into blossom, a symphony of song and color. Mountain glories of Lebanon–a gift. Awesome Carmel, stunning Sharon–gifts. GOD’s resplendent glory, fully on display. GOD awesome, GOD majestic.”

You all know that Blossoms are small flowers on trees. They come in varying colours and they attract bees so that cross pollination can take place so that the trees are able to produce fruit.

Definition of the word /”Blossom”

To bloom; To flourish, to prosper and to thrive

“We should so live and labor in our times that what came to us as seed  may go to the next generation as blossom, and what came to us as blossom may go to them as fruit. This expresses the true spirit in the love of mankind.” ~Henry Ward Beecher

God is giving this generation the blossom and is asking us to bloom where we are planted. Are we going to give the next generation the fruit to taste so that they can see God is good? We need to display His glory, to fill the face of this earth with His fruit and glory.

Seeing the blooming of the tree teaches us an important message of hope. They show us how after a period of barren emptiness, there is a stirring of life and a new beginning. God wants you to experience a flutter in your hearts and wants you to be full of hope, that an era of glory will be manifested.

2 Corinthians 3:7-9 (ISV) “Now if the ministry of death that was inscribed in letters of stone came with such glory that the people of Israel could not gaze on Moses’ face,  (8)  will not the Spirit’s ministry have even more glory?  (9)  For if the ministry of condemnation has glory, then the ministry of justification has an overwhelming glory.”

Colossians 1:26  “Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints: To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory”

I read Rick Joyner’s book “The Torch and the Sword”, I was amazed when I read what confirmed everything God was sharing with me He speaks of a vision that God gave him of the last day church!

“The body of Christ is about to go through a metamorphosis. It has been like a caterpillar crawling along the ground but it is about to emerge into a glorious butterfly which soars above the earth.  The church that is about to arise will be more at home in the heavenly realm than the earthly.”

Another thing that we must look at in the vision that God gave me, is the sunset. The Lord is saying to us through this that we are in the sunset of one age and the dawning of another. New thing is about to take place!!

I also want to highlight one more thing from the vision and that is the fact that I was sitting on the bench with Jesus which says clearly to me, that He desires intimacy. It is more important that we know Him. Everything else will flow from that relationship with Him and the Father (1 John 1 :3).

I want to close with this scripture:

2 Corinthians 3:18 “All of us, then, reflect the glory of the Lord with uncovered faces; and that same glory, coming from the Lord, who is the Spirit, transforms us into his likeness in an ever greater degree of glory.”

This is a total metamorphosis, when we can understand and see who God has placed in us. We must allow Him (Christ in us) to be revealed to the world. He is the One who must live and move and have His being in and through us.
