“Being like Jesus” – a BIG no no!!!!

23 10 2011

As born again believers, our terminology needs to be accurate. What I mean by accurate, I mean is that our speech must be aligned to God’s Word. When we speak and preach, our words need to be accurate because if we are not accurate according to the Word, our words will have no effect on the hearers – 2Tim 3:5. For the gospel of Christ is the power of God unto salvation.

One phrase that I hear said over and over again by believers is this: I want to be like Jesus! I personally have said it many times and have even preached that we must be like Jesus. But I have discovered only recently that desiring to like Jesus is not Godly. In fact it is a desire spawned by Satan.!!!

Let’s read in Isaiah the account of Lucifer being cast out of heaven:

Isa 14:12-14 MKJV  How you are fallen from the heavens, O shining star, son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground, you who weakened the nations!  (13)  For you have said in your heart, I will go up to the heavens, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north.  (14)  I will go up above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the Most High.

What was Lucifer’s arrogant statement? “I will be like the Most High!” Lucifer wanted to be like God. He really believed that he could be like Him.

How many Christians today ‘innocently’ or should it be ‘ignorantly’ say that they want to be like Jesus? Why do we want to be like Jesus – who is God, if Lucifer was found guilty of the same selfish desire?

Scripture  tells us that we are to be ‘as Christ’. But that is a whole new message altogether. I will leave you with this scripture and I pray that the Holy Spirit will teach you this truth.

1Jn 4:17 KJV  Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.

I will continue with this subject in the next post – https://inchristinme.wordpress.com/2011/11/01/christ-as-us/
