We are not just sinners saved by grace!

22 10 2011

Religion has given born again believers a very bad self-image. You will hear people saying things like, “I am just a sinner, saved by grace”, or “I am just a worm in God’s eyes”, or something to that effect! We accept these kind of attitudes because we do not understand who we really are to God. We are God’s children – conceived by God Himself! We are not just been adopted by Him, we have been birthed by Him – 1 Peter 1:23 & 1 John 3:9.

So what is the truth in this matter? Who are we? Let’s look at the epistle of John. He says four times that we are to be as Jesus is! Huuuhhh???? To be like Jesus is? How can that be possible you may be asking. You are probably thinking that this is blasphemous and heresy!!!

Let’s leave all preconceived and religious assumptions aside and let’s look at the scriptures:

In the first chapter of John’s first epistle he says this:

1Jn 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, ….

How can this be? Is it possible for us to walk in the same light as Jesus? This verse says that it is!

In the second chapter we read this:

1Jn 2:6 KJV He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.

We have been chosen in Him – Eph 1:4. We are in Christ through the new birth. Christ has been placed in us as our life and the life we now live is Christ. Therefore we are to walk as Christ walked here on earth. Hey man, I don’t know about you, but this is amazing stuff!

1Jn 3:7 KJV … he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.

Can we be righteous as He is righteous? This is what this is saying.

1Jn 3:3 KJV And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.

Let’s recap quickly: Righteous as He is righteous! Pure as He is pure! In the light as He is in the light! And walking as He walks!

And to close off, John’s statement is mind blowing.

1Jn 4:17 KJV Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment:

It does not say, “ought to be made perfect”, or “might be made perfect”, but it says, “Herein is our love made perfect”. We have perfect love in us.

Then we get to the highlight of this little study:

1Jn 4:17 KJV ….. because as he is, so are we in this world.

“as He is”, it doesn’t say, “as He was on earth”, it says , as He IS NOW!!! Christ is perfect and ALL powerful and exalted and AWESOME. He is seated at the right hand of the Father. He commands the heavenly hosts and He is above all things and by Him all things consist. His Word runs the universes. “As he is so are we.”

So much for being a mere sinner saved by grace!
