‘God said that it was good” – or was it?

Gen 1:10 KJV …… and God saw that it was good.

Many Christians believe that God does only good things to people and that He only gives good things to His children. This is true but God does not define ‘good’ like we define ‘good’.  When God created the earth, He created thorns as well as the roses.

Christians base this belief that God does not have anything to do with evil on the following scripture that says that God is light and there is no darkness in Him at all – 1 Jn 1:5.

Somewhere in ‘religion’, we have been taught that God has ‘lost control’ of the universe and Satan and his demons rule the earth. This is where the ‘kings and priest’ movement comes from. They believe that we are supposed to rule and reign right here and now on earth and that Christians are meant to take dominion over everything and everyone that stands opposed to God’s ‘word and will’. Let me give an example: “We must pray against this evil immoral government that we have, so that a godly’ government will replace them!”

This sounds good, but is this scenario truly God’s will? Should we be ‘taking authority’ over these kind of circumstances? Do we have the authority to do this on behalf of God or is this just another religious ‘bad habit’ that we have picked up along the way?

Let’s look at some verses of scripture:

Col 1:16-17 KJV For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: (17) And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.

1Co 8:6 KJV, 2Co 5:18 KJV, Eph 1:11 KJV , Eph 3:9 KJV

These verses tell us that EVERYTHING on earth and beyond, has been created by Jesus Christ! Earthquakes, hurricanes, death, sickness and disease, murder, bankruptcy, hatred and even Satan himself, have been created by Jesus Christ to serve His Father’s purpose. Everything that happens on earth, is part of God’s eternal purpose. Nothing happens on earth apart from God’s will. This may seem shocking to the religious mind, but true.

Let me explain further: Before man was created, Lucifer and his rebel cohorts, were cast down from heaven by God to the planet earth. Later on God created Adam and Eve and placed them in the Garden of Eden. Many people think that Eden was paradise, but a closer look tells us a different story! Out of all the planets in the universe, God placed Adam and Eve in a garden with Satan!!! I mean how contrary that is to our religious thinking? Not only did God put Adam and Eve in the garden with Satan, He also placed a deadly poisonous tree in the garden with them! If they ate of this tree’s fruit, they would die!!! How’s that for a ‘loving Father’? This rings warning bells to those of us who have been religiously taught that God only does ‘good’ to His children. You all know how this story of Adam and Eve ends.

My point is this: What we think is good, is a life void of struggling and lack, pain and loss. We think that an absence of these things is good, but God sees things on a much bigger scale and He sees things in the right perspective! God has not lost His control of the universe and nothing happens here on earth aside from His will.

Even what we think and consider is evil, may not be bad for us!!! If everything created on earth was created by Jesus Christ, then even evil is a tool in God’s hands – Job 1:12!!!

Isa 45:7 KJV I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.

Eze 6:10 KJV And they shall know that I am the LORD, and that I have not said in vain that I would do this evil unto them.

Amo 3:6 KJV Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the LORD hath not done it?

The point of all this is that everything ‘bad’ that happens on earth, is not necessarily ‘bad’ for us. God has His eternal plan and everything that happens on earth is according to that eternal plan –  Eph 1:4. God will use the elements, He will use circumstances, He will use Satan and demons, to accomplish and fulfil this eternal purpose – 2 Cor 12:7. We need to see that God is supreme and that He rules and reigns this earth, Satan doesn’t – Luke 10:18 & Jn 12:31. Jesus Christ in us is King over EVERYTHING AND EVERYONE. He is the One who rules and reigns. In Him we live and move and have our being!!!

In closing, when something bad happens to us, we can rest because God is our Father and everything that happens will work out for good. It might not look like ‘good’, but it is good because God says it is and He knows best!!!!
