Salvation is not “something”, it is “Someone”

17 09 2011

Often salvation is preached as something that God does for us. What this causes is the perception that people have to do something in order to “get” something from God. This is how the Old Testament worked, where people had to do things to please God. People had to keep many laws so that they would be acceptable to God. Salvation in the Old Testament was something that God did for people. Salvation in the New Testament is completely different. Salvation is a person – Jesus Christ. If salvation is something that God does for us, then we have to work for it, but because salvation is a person, it is not “something”, salvation is “Someone”! Salvation is not something we work or strive for, it is who God is. When we believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, we receive Him! We do not receive something He does to us or for us, we receive another Person, Jesus Christ.

Rom 5:9-10 KJV Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. (10) For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.

The reason Christians are always doing things to please God, is because they do not know that Christ is their salvation. Their salvation is complete through the person of Christ in them. Because Christ is in them, they are saved. Because Christ is in them, they have everything they need for life and Godliness. Because of Christ in them they are the righteousness of God. Because of Christ in them they are Holy. Because of Christ in them…..

The “working” and “doing” is done by Christ in us. He is the One who works. We are His containers that manifest His works through us.

Col 1:27-29 KJV To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory: (28) Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus: (29) Whereunto I also labour, striving according to his working, which worketh in me mightily.

Salvation is Jesus Christ who works in us.

1Jn 5:12 KJV He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
