Beware of immitations!!!

13 09 2011

We are living in a time where Christianity preaches a mixture of Law and grace. It preaches a “Jewish Christianity”, if I can call it that? Paul, warned the Church in Colosse, not to turn away from the gospel that Paul preached, which was “Christ in us……”

Colossians 2:1-8 MKJV For I want you to know what a great conflict I have for you and those at Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh, (2) that their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and to all riches of the full assurance of the understanding, to the full knowledge of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ; (3) in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. (4) And I say this that not anyone should beguile you with enticing words. (5) For though I am absent in the flesh, yet I am with you in the spirit, rejoicing and beholding your order and the steadfastness of your faith in Christ. (6) Therefore as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, (7) rooted and built up in Him, and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving. (8) Beware lest anyone rob you through philosophy and vain deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the elements of the world, and not according to Christ.

Let’s look at the last verse, verse 8 in detail.

(8) Beware lest anyone rob you through philosophy and vain deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the elements of the world, and not according to Christ.

Definition of “rob you”:
To carry off loot. To carry one off as a captive (and slave). To lead away from the truth. Seduce, spoil.

Definition of “Philosophy”:
Jewish Christian ascetics, looking into the ritual of the Mosaic law or Moses’ law, and the regulations of Jewish tradition.

Definition of “vain deceit”:
Empty, vain, devoid of truth, of men, fruitless, of no purpose

Definition of “tradition of men”:
Of the body of Jewish precepts, especially ritual, which were orally delivered by Moses and orally transmitted to other generations. These precepts, both illustrating and expanding the written law, as they did were to be obeyed with equal reverence.

(8) Beware lest anyone rob you through philosophy and vain deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the elements of the world, and not according to Christ.

We cannot “tolerate” a mixed gospel based on these points. Because if we do, we will become “religious”, and we will be yet another generation, missing the mark!!!!!! Christ ALONE! We will not settle for anything less than perfection in the Person of Christ.
