What is true worship?

11 09 2011

In the following scripture, God tells Moses how to construct an altar to the Lord. An altar is a pile of stones packed on top of each other, upon which people would offer sacrifices to God. God gave very clear instructions on how this altar would be built. He instructed Moses that the rocks that were used, were not to be chiselled in any way. They were to be untouched by man’s efforts and idealism. This is found in this scripture:

Exo 20:25 KJV And if thou wilt make me an altar of stone, thou shalt not build it of hewn stone: for if thou lift up thy tool upon it, thou hast polluted it.

(GNB) If you make an altar of stone for me, do not build it out of cut stones, because when you use a chisel on stones, you make them unfit for my use.

This is a word for the church today. The altar is a place of worship – like the local church. God said that if man “works” on the stones by “chiselling” them to fit together better, and changes them through his works, then the altar would be defiled and unacceptable to God. This is God saying that He will not accept man made worship in any form. He does not accept worship according to what man thinks is acceptable to God just because it has been made to fit together in an “acceptable way”. God wants pure worship. God doesn’t accept anything less than perfection and purity and holiness, which is only found in His Son Jesus Christ. God will not accept any other offering from us, excepting in His Son Christ. Christ in us is the only acceptable form of worship!!!! Nothing a man does, is acceptable and pleasing to God!

So where does this leave the modern church, with all its plans and goals, and planning sessions, and business meetings, and vision casting sermons etc etc? Where does this leave the “excellence in ministry” folk? What about the “skilled musicians and talented charismatic preachers”? What about the flags in the church and our waving and lifting hands?

No worship is acceptable to God that we “offer” to Him in the flesh. Nothing we do in the physical changes the spiritual realm. We can wave flags all day long, and God will not be impressed. He is only impressed with Jesus Christ His Son. We worship God, through the Christ in us. Christ is and has been accepted ALONE. Christ is God’s Lamb, who is not fashioned by human hands. Christ comes from God and is One with God. The Living Word……..

Eph 1:6 MKJV to the praise of the glory of His grace, in which He has made us accepted in the One having been loved.

Heb 2:12 MKJV saying, “I will declare Your name to My brothers; in the midst of the assembly I will sing praise to You.”

Worship is God ordained and cannot be “manmade or fashioned” to the idealism of man. God has given us Jesus Christ and it is only through Him in us, is anything we do acceptable to God!
