Time to grow up

7 09 2011

This is a very short study on this topic and yet very clear. It will provoke you to action in some form or another. It may even make you angry! I ask that you will forgive me in advance for causing you any distress, and yet i believe that this is very necessary in order to bring you to a better understanding of who you really are as a child of God. I pray that the Holy Spirit will reveal God’s truth to us in this very delicate but vital matter.

The bible talks of 3 level of understanding in a Christian’s life. It talks about children, young men and fathers 1 Jn 2:12-14. As you know, immature children need a special kind of supervision in order to care for their needs, and to keep them safe and secure Gal 4:1-7. Adults on the other hand need a different kind of care. This is also true in God’s church.

We need to know what the purpose of the 5 fold ministers as they are known.

Eph 4:11-15 KJV And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; (12) For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: (13) Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a *perfect man*, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: (14) That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; (15) But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:

This scripture says that their responsibility is to bring Christians to perfection and maturity. It then goes on to say that they have this responsibility “till…” we all come into the *”unity of the faith” (Please follow the link at the end of this post to read more on “Unity of faith”). Paul then says to us that when we come to the unity of the faith, which is Christ, then we will not be children anymore!!! When a Christian comes to spiritual adulthood understanding as mentioned in this scripture, the 5 fold offices are no longer needed for these believers. These offices of prophet, pastor, apostle, teacher and evangelist, have been given to the body of Christ, the Church “UNTIL” they come to an understanding of who they are in Christ.

Please read the next scripture which further accentuates this idea of spiritual maturity and development:

1Co 12:28-31 KJV And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues. (29) Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles? (30) Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret? (31) But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way. 1Co 13:1-11 KJV Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. (2) And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. …….. (8) Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. (9) For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. (10) But when that which is *perfect* is come, then that which is in part shall be done away. (11) When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

In closing: Paul uses the same sort of language when he talks about the gifts and ministries in the last scripture quoted 1 Cor 12:28- 31 –1 Cor 13:1-11. When the perfect man is revealed and is joined to our spirit as one 1 Cor 6:17.
