Golden calf Christianity?

1 09 2011

If you asked a group of Christians from different denominations and areas, how do they see God?, you would very likely get a variety of differing answers. For example, some might say that God is a stern Judge, and some might completely disagree and say that God is a loving Father. Some might say that God created evil and therefore how could He be a God of love? Some might even say that it doesn’t matter what you believe as long as you believe in God!!!

It seems that many Christians disagree about God and have formed their own idea of who He is and how He works. You could say that people have created their own “image” of God in their minds depending on their experience and knowledge. This has a resemblance of what the Israelites did.

Exo 32:1-9 GW When the people saw that Moses delayed coming down from the mountain, they gathered around Aaron. They said to him, “We don’t know what has happened to this Moses, who led us out of Egypt. Make gods who will lead us.” (2) Aaron said to them, “Have your wives, sons, and daughters take off the gold earrings they are wearing, and bring them to me.” (3) So all the people took off their gold earrings and handed them to Aaron. (4) After he had worked on the gold with a tool, he made it into a statue of a calf. Then they said, “Israel, here are your gods who brought you out of Egypt.” (5) When Aaron saw this, he built an altar in front of it and announced, “Tomorrow there will be a festival in the LORD’S honor.” (6) Early the next day the people sacrificed burnt offerings and brought fellowship offerings. Afterward, they sat down to a feast, which turned into an orgy. (7) The LORD said to Moses, “Go back down there. Your people whom you brought out of Egypt have ruined everything. (8) They’ve already turned from the way I commanded them to live. They’ve made a statue of a calf for themselves. They’ve bowed down to it and offered sacrifices to it. They’ve said, ‘Israel,

There are your gods who brought you out of Egypt.'” (9) The LORD added, “I’ve seen these people, and they are impossible to deal with.

Did you notice that the people got the “priest” Aaron” to make this idol for them according to their preferences, and he agreed to their demands. It sounds like a user friendly church today doesn’t it? Where the preacher “conjures up” a false image of the True and Living God to the people.

The reason people have these false images of God in their minds, is because they have been “programmed” that way by religion. Religion has taught that Jesus + man’s effort = Salvation. These poor souls have been living a “good Christian life”, but have been innocently ignorant of the Christ who lives inside of them. They have been chased from pillar to post by religion. One preacher says do this and another preacher says the opposite. Preaching a mixture of Law and grace, has caused confusion and a very distorted image of God in their minds. Religion has preached that God has lost control of the world and that satan has taken over. No wonder so many Christians have a such a distorted image of God in their minds.

So what is the answer to this dilemma?

2Co 10:4-5 MKJV For the weapons of our warfare are not fleshly, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds, (5) pulling down imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought into the obedience of Christ;

God is revealing His Son Christ Jesus in hungry believers to them through the Holy Spirit. God is restoring his “defamed” Name and Image in believers minds. God Himself has undertaken to rectify His tarnished image in the minds of his sons and daughters. God is revealing His very own image, Christ in us, to us.

Col 1:15 MKJV who (Jesus Christ) is the image of the invisible God, …..

Col 3:10 MKJV and having put on the new, having been renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him,

God has sent His Word, the Truth, and this Word is going forth and setting the captives free. Knowing Jesus Christ in you sets you free. Free from religion. Free from man’s effort. Jesus Christ is the image we are to have in our minds, for God and Jesus Christ are One. Us in Him, and Him in us…………
