God cooks with a pressure cooker

30 08 2011

A few years ago my wife came to me and said that she had realized that we are seeds, that must die in order to bring life. I agreed with her because that is what the bible says, but I didn’t REALLY” understand! I understood it with my head, but I was completely ignorant with my heart. Wow was I in for a drastic lesson.

It started a couple of years ago. Everything was going well and we were in the “summer time” spiritually. We had just been “promoted” and we were chosen to head up a church in a very large denomination. We were getting paid a very handsome package and we lived in a mansion on “millionaires street”. We were lapping it up!!!! Life was so good!!! Or that is what we thought……
Then almost a year later, the “mother of all storms” arrived uninvited. Our lives were turned upside down and inside out. We really didn’t know which way was up and which way was down. We lost the church that we were pastoring. We lost our cars. We lost our house. We lost many so called friends. We lost absolutely everything in the blink of an eye. We moved home four times in 2 months. Our children were uprooted from schools and were extremely hurt in the process. It was like all hell had broken loose in our lives.

Then, we were suddenly all alone. When I say alone, I mean that all of a sudden, we seemed to be invisible to our friends and family. No one phoned us. No one invited us over for dinner. We felt like we had fallen off the planet and nobody even noticed.

We went through depression and many many tissues. My wife and children tried to “annalyze” our circumstances and see where we had gone wrong. We cried out to the Lord over and over again for deliverance from this terrible place that we were in, and yet, He seemed completely silent.

We felt like we were inside of a closed pressure cooker that Someone had closed shut from the outside, and that Someone, was turning up the heat. We couldn’t get out even if we wanted to because there wasn’t any escape hatch and boy was it the pressure inside of that thing terrible. It felt like we were going to burst open at any time. We were on the verge of a nervous breakdown. We had nowhere to go and no one to talk to. Or that is what we felt.

The funny thing about pressure, is that it makes you examine yourself carefully. It forces you to take stock of your life. It causes you to get rid of things that are not real! What I mean by this, is that you really don’t have the energy to do things that have no true meaning and value. You clean house!!! You throw out everything that is not real. This pressure was coming from the outside, and it was causing such a turmoil within us. It was making us very uncomfortable. It was breaking us down to nothing.

I remember as a young man, how driven and ambitious I was for the Lord. I wanted to set the world ablaze with His power. I really believed that I was special because I had a special anointing from God. I tell you this, when the pressure is increased and you feel like you are going to explode inside, you begin to do a lot of serious introspection! I realized how wrong I was in so many areas.

God began to unfold His will for us very slowly! I don’t know if He did it slowly, or if we grasped it slowly!!!! But whatever the case was, He was in control of our circumstances. He was orchestrating our lives. Nothing was happening to us apart from His will. It was a very bitter pill to swallow because I had always taught that we are supposed to rule and reign and take dominion over satan and his schemes.

Over a period of 16 months which felt like 16 years, and I must say that it isn’t over yet because we are still locked inside the pressure cooker, we are beginning to understand what has happened to us. I say “happened to us”, because when we look back, we were not 100% responsible for our circumstances. We can see that Father God, was and is in control and is moulding us and forming us into the image of His Son. Please let me explain?

Joh 12:24 MKJV  Truly, truly, I say to you, Unless a grain of  wheat falls into the ground and dies, it abides alone; but if it dies, it
brings forth much fruit.

This scripture says that life comes from death. It is a spiritual law that God has ordained.  Jesus Christ felt all alone when He was placed in God’s pressure cooker in the garden of Gethsemane.

Mat 27:46 MKJV  ….. Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? That is, My God, My God, why have You forsaken
me?

This was what we were experiencing. We felt like everyone including God had forsaken us.  This is part of the death experience and a vital part of every believer’s growth in the Lord.

Rom 6:4-5 MKJV  Therefore we were buried with Him by baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father; even so we also should walk in newness of life.  (5)  For if we have been joined together in the likeness of His death, we shall also be in the likeness of His resurrection;

We were completely ignorant of God’s part in these “dark days”. We felt abandoned and forsaken. But when we look back, we see that God was using circumstances to bring death to us, so that He could reveal the life inside of us – Christ. If you look at a seed, it consists of a husk which is a tough protective shell that protects the “germ” inside of the seed. The germ is the part that contains the life of the seed. If you liken yourself to a seed, we too have a tough outer shell which is the flesh. We also have a germ which is Christ in us.

Gal 3:16 MKJV  …… but as of one, “And to your Seed,” which is Christ.

When a seed is sown, the sun beats down on it, the cold bruises it, the chemicals in the soil break it down, rocks press against it and so forth. All these things break he husk down. If the husk isn’t broken down the seed will not germinate. The ame is true of life’s circumstances. Circumstances break down our fleshly man, o that God’s life, Christ, can be brought forth out of us. Only when the husk ies, does the life come out of it. Only then does the life come out of the
germ.

This is so important o understand because many Christians walk around in condemnation, because they  believe that if they are experiencing hard times, and tough situations, that they  have sinned and God is punishing them for their actions. This is not true. God  is using these tough times that we experience to breakdown our tough husk  called the flesh. He brings pressure to the flesh so that the Life in us will  be revealed to the world. If God plants you in the ground, you will experience  hardship and tribulations, there is no escaping this. No one escapes God’s law  of life from death. “Religion” on the other hand has taught us that lack and  trouble come from committing sin. It also tells us that success and wealth are indicative  of righteousness. Look at what Paul says about suffering:

Col 1:24 MKJV  who now rejoice in my sufferings on your ehalf, and I fill up the things lacking of the afflictions of Christ in my
flesh, on behalf of His body, which is he church;

1Pe 4:12-13 MKJV  Beloved, do not be astonished at the fiery rial which is to try you, as though  strange thing happened to you,  (13)  but
rejoice according as you are partakers of Christ’s suffering
, so that when is glory shall be revealed, you may be glad also with exceeding joy.

Paul ejoiced in his sufferings because he understood this spiritual law of life rom death.

2Co 1:4-9 MKJV  He comforting us in all our trouble, so that e may be able to comfort those who are in every trouble, through the comfort ith which we ourselves are comforted by God.  5) For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation  also abounds by Christ.  (6)  And if we are roubled, it is for your consolation and alvation, being worked out in the endurance of the same sufferings which we also suffer; if we are comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation.  (7)  And our hope of you is certain, knowing that as you are partakers of the sufferings, so also of the consolation.  (8)  For, brothers, we would not have you ignorant  of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed out of measure, above strength; so much so that we despaired even of life.  (9)  But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, so that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God who raises the dead;

In closing, if you are hungry to see Christ manifested through you? If you desire to reveal  Christ to a lost and dying world, a world starved of truth and light, the key is  through death. Life only comes from death. Christ will only come forth as your  dry rough and tough husk is broken down and destroyed by circumstances and  situations which God uses to bring forth His Son, Jesus Christ – in you!!!!  There is no other way. Life comes from death.

So the next time you face tribulation, look at it with fresh eyes and an understanding  heart. This is sent to further break down the fleshly man, so that the life of  Christ in you will be revealed!!!

Isa 53:2-12 MKJV  For He comes up before Him as a tender plant,  and as a root out of a dry ground;
