Father Christmas is dead

19 08 2011

I will never forget the day when I discovered that Father Christmas wasn’t real! I was utterly heartbroken and was shocked to say the least! I could not understand that my parents had been keeping this truth from me for all those years. For my little heart it was almost too much to bear. I remember the place where this rude awakening shook my 8 year old life. I even remember the time of day!!! I was disappointed to say the least that my parents lied to me about this “magical jolly old man”. I felt like my parents had really damaged me through this lie!!!!!

I had forgotten about this event until last evening when my wife and I were discussing Christ. We were talking about how new believers are so excited and full of zeal for the Lord. About how they believe things that are not real about God. They have a way of spiritualizing absolutely everything!!!!! If they see a pigeon sitting in a tree, they spiritualize it. They may say something like, “that’s God revealing His love for me etc…” This may be harmless, at least for a while, but then reality sets in.

1Co 13:11 KJV When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

This may be a silly example but a very serious one. I remember when I was a new believer, how I was told “spiritual Father Christmas” stories. Let me explain: When you are passionate about God, you are a magnet for “prophetic” utterances. Almost every church service that we attended, people would “prophesy” over us, telling us what great and awesome things God was going to do through us. They said things like we are special vessels that God was going to use all over the world to show His power through etc etc. What this did to a babe in Christ, was puff up our flesh. It ministered and appealed to our natural man, and not to the Christ in us. We became completely reliant on our own faith and power. We did not know the Christ within. We depended on our own fleshly attributes to further our causes. We were living in a spiritual “North Pole”. We were living a fairy tale.

1Ti 1:4 KJV Neither give heed to fables ….
1Ti 4:7 KJV But refuse profane and old wives’ fables, ……
2Ti 4:4 KJV And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
Tit 1:14 KJV Not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth.
2Pe 1:16 KJV For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, …..

A few years of experience began to show us something. It showed us that we knew absolutely nothing! We were in for a rude awakening. For the second time in my life, “Father Christmas” died. We found out that we had believed many things that were not true. In fact, we had believed many things that were complete lies!!!!! The things that we had learnt in bible school were not working. Something was very wrong!!! I even remember saying to my wife, “the problem cannot be with God, it must be with us…”

God in time proved this to be true. We knew that there was more to Christianity than what we were experiencing. The bible was not working as it said it would, and as we were taught that it would. We were quoting and standing on scriptures, prophesying and fighting the devil, all to no avail!!!! I even tried to raise 2 dead people on two different occasions!!!! They are still dead!!!

What we didn’t know at the time, was that God Himself, was teaching us Christ!!! Praise Him for that. We can see now that God turned our world completely upside down, so that we could learn Christ. God began revealing the “Father Christmas” beliefs that stood contrary to Christ. What an angry time that was. We were challenged in every area of our lives, so that we could be founded on the Rock, Christ.

God the Father is not the author of “spiritual fairy tales”, man is. Man is responsible for teaching fables.

Col 2:8 KJV Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

Many people think that letting their spiritual children believe in a “Father Christmas” is harmless and a lot of fun. I want to tell you this, what we experienced in disappointment and hurt, is no laughing matter. I do not recommend it to anyone. Rather preach the truth, Christ in us. Do not compromise on this point. Your spiritual children will thank you for it. There is no room for “Father Christmas” beliefs. If we teach our children men’s fables and philosophies and the Law, we will end up with children who despise us for it. It is time that we preach Him, for He is our message.

1Jn 2:13-14 KJV I write unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I write unto you, young men, because ye have overcome the wicked one. I write unto you, little children, because ye have known the Father. (14) I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one.

There is only one gospel for us born again believers, the gospel of Jesus Christ. All other gospels are in Paul’s words, “no gospels at all”. They are just words with no life in them. In fact, any gospel that does not preach Christ, will kill the hearers thereof.

Father Christmas is dead, and he should never be raised again………..
