Which parts of the Bible are written to us?

14 08 2011

Many of us know this scripture:

2 Timothy 3:16-17 MKJV All Scripture is God-breathed, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, (17) that the man of God may be perfected, thoroughly furnished to every good work.

Every scripture in the Bible is written to someone.  Although God is speaking IN the Bible, it does not mean that He is speaking to everyone. Let me explain, Elijah called fire down from heaven on instructions from God. It does not mean that we can all call fire down from heaven!!! Do you understand? Many people use scripture to back up what they say. All scripture is not written specifically for you.

Let me put it this way, scripture can give us God’s attitude towards a subject, without intending the scripture to be aimed at us. For example, when God speaks to Israel, He is not speaking to the church. When God is speaking to the Jews, He is not talking to the gentiles. When He speaks to the Jews and the gentiles, He is speaking to everyone! When God spoke to Paul, He is speaking to the born again believers.

Unfortunately, many Christians find themselves in a place where their whole belief system is made up of a collection of scriptures of God talking to someone else, and missing the scriptures where God is talking directly to them. Let me give you an example: There is a movement of so called Christians, that are not allowed to eat pork, not allowed to buy meat at a normal butchery, they have to slaughter the cow themselves etc etc.  This is an extreme case, and yet many “normal Christians”, are guilty of the same thing. Many co-mingle the law and grace.

The reason this problem exists, is that they have not rightly divided the Word of truth.

2 Timothy 2:15 MKJV Study earnestly to present yourself approved to God, a workman that does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of Truth.

When we rightly divide the scriptures, we will know when God is speaking to us directly. Paul’s books are written directly to us, and are not written anywhere else in the bible.

When God speaks to a definite dispensation, it does not apply to other times and places.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 MKJV All Scripture is God-breathed, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, (17) that the man of God may be perfected, thoroughly furnished to every good work.

This scripture does not mean that we must not rightly divide the Word of truth. It is the believers responsibility to “rightly divide”.

Rightly dividing the Word of truth, is not taking God’s word out of context. Do not use what was said to someone in the Old Testament, as God’s direct Word to you. People walk around a building 7 times, for example, because that’s what God said to Joshua about Jerricho!!!!!!!

Please note:
As a believer who does not want to be ashamed, I separate the things that God did in Abrahams life from the way God deals with me in grace. Rightly dividing the word, means that “everything in the bible is written for me, but not to me.” As born again believers, we must know what is written to us directly as a new race of people – new creation people. Do not take what is written to the Jews as God speaking to you. These books can help us, but are not written to us. We must rightly divide the word of truth!!!!!

What books are written to us as born again believers? Pauls Epistles. The message of Grace!!!! In the Epistles, and only in the Epistles, you will hear that Christ comes and lives in you.

People mixing what God says in different dispensations and to different people causes a lot of confusion and a lot of religiousness to arise. 4/5 of the bible is devoted to Israel’s prophecy, and only 1/5 is written to the born again believer.

Hebrews 1:1-2 MKJV God, who at many times and in many ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, (2) has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, by whom also He made the worlds,…….

Jesus touched on the gospel of Christ and stopped because He knew that they were not ready for it.

John 3:1-12 KJV There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: (2) The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him. (3) Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. (4) Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born? (5) Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. (6) That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. (7) Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. (8) The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit. (9) Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be? (10) Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things? (11) Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness. (12) If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things?

In closing this section:

We need to start with the Epistles of Paul, and then the rest of the bible will be understood in the right context. “We first centre on the epistles, to see who we are in Christ”. From this foundation, the bible will open up.  This is why Paul said that we are built on the foundation of Christ – The Rock!!! The Rock that Christ’s Church, His body is founded on! The Church is not founded on the Law or any other prophetic book found in the Old Testament. The Church is not even founded on the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke or John. It is founded on Christ – The Risen Christ! Christ in us!!!!!

We must read the bible with “Christ in us” spectacles on. Then the Word will be clear. There is only life in Christ. If we cannot see Christ in the Word and as the Word, then there is no life.
